Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate has described the Queensland government as "un-Australian" for holding back funding to cover the city's growing disaster-recovery bill.
Cr Tate said the council had not yet received financial assistance from a $169 million package, jointly funded by the state and federal government, to cover the cost of repairing the city's eroded beaches following Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
Since the cyclone battered the coastline in March, he said the city had spent $39 million on beach-restoration works.
Cr Tate said the federal government had already handed over the money to help foot the bill in July, but the council was still waiting for the state government to distribute the funds.
