LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Public Schools went before the City Council on Tuesday to request a 20-acre annexation in southwest Lincoln.

The district is a few months away from breaking ground on the $24.8 million Student Support Facility at Folsom Street and Pioneers Boulevard.

The Yankee Hill Education Center is currently teaching students in specialized education programs at that location.

The new facility wouldn’t be a traditional school.

It would be used for students that are part of the Behavioral Skills Program, Student Support Program and the Transitions Program.

“A lot of them are focused on behavioral support so that we can meet those extra needs,” said Brooke Hay, assistant director of operations for LPS.
