The question about Justice Haynes was not even finished but Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore couldn't help but blurt it out.
" Animal, animal ," Moore bellowed Monday, Oct. 6 in Ann Arbor. "He should be up for the Heisman. I'm starting that."
The season is not yet at the halfway point, but through five games, the numbers are there to back it up. Haynes has run the ball 88 times and is fourth in the nation both in rushing yards (654) and touchdowns (eight). He's third in the country in yards per game (130.8) and leads the Big Ten in each category.
Last Saturday against a Wisconsin defense allowing just 50 rush yards per game , Haynes surpassed that on the first drive and finished with 19 carries for 117 yards and two touchdowns.
