A mother has criticised her local school after her daughter was suspended for refusing to follow a 'ridiculous' uniform policy. Rachel Dawson, 42, said her daughter Izobella Dawson, 13, believed she was doing 'the right thing' by wearing retainers designed to conceal her ear piercings.

Neighbourhood manager Rachel explained that her daughter had been able to wear the "invisible" earrings without problems since beginning at Kirk Balk Academy in Barnsley, South Yorkshire , just over two years ago in September 2023.

Pupils being prevented from attending school due to uniform violations is nothing new, and recently more secondary schools have announced they would be prohibiting skirts .
