The provincial government has introduced a new royalty framework aimed at boosting Saskatchewan’s burgeoning lithium sector, a move with significant implications for development in the southeast.
The amendments to The Subsurface Mineral Royalty Regulations establish a three per cent Crown royalty rate on the value of brine mineral sales. The framework also includes a two-year royalty holiday for new projects to encourage initial investment.
“Lithium is a critical mineral that is expected to see strong demand and growth in the decades ahead, and Saskatchewan is well-positioned to take advantage of this opportunity,” Energy and Resources Minister Colleen Young said in a press release.
