MEDORA, N.D. — This fall, Old Town Hall Theater in Medora is presenting "Cash vs The King." Open since September, the production spotlights two American music legends — Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley — in a duel that seeks to crown a winner every night.

The show starts well before a note is played. Walking into the theater, audience members are greeted with hanging fog, an effect reminiscent of a smoky barroom. The stage, designed by Kinley R. Slauter, is bathed in marquee lights and lined with vintage radios. The show opens with an off-stage monologue about how the town hall often served as a community's boxing ring. The lights, designed by Elle Doster, flash red and blue, before the two heavyweights of the night are announced.
