MOORESVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Turtle has gone missing from a Mooresville small business.

Turtle is the name of the longtime pet turtle at LKN Small Engine just north of downtown. He escaped the store on Friday, store employee and his owner of 20 years Jared Washington says.

“Our beloved red-eared slider turtle — about the size of a hand — managed to make a great escape from his enclosure at LKN Small Engine (619 N Church St) on Friday evening.”

Washington is concerned since Turtle has never been out “in the wild.” The store’s security cameras caught him escaping the building and then slipping through a small hole in the fence.

They kept Turtle in the show room area of various outdoor equipment.

“I really miss him around here,” says another employee.
