WEST HAVEN, Conn. — West Haven has recovered $140,000 in lost tax revenue through the city's motor vehicle registration program, according to spokesperson Michael Walsh Tuesday.
The program, which Mayor Dorinda Borer initiated, recouped the revenue from vehicles that were either unregistered or registered outside of the state or the city.
The city hired the Capital Tax Recovery of Berlin, or CTR, to scan license plates in West Haven and determine if residents registered their vehicles with the state and had West Haven as their tax city, Walsh said.
According to Assessor Ann Marie Gradoia, who oversees the city's program, 1,169 vehicles were submitted for billing since January. Among those vehicles, 478 were unregistered, 66 were registered outside of West Haven and 102 were registered
