WASHINGTON, D.C. (WSMV) - A group of Republican senators announced that in 2023, the Federal Bureau of Investigation analyzed phone records of several lawmakers as part of an investigation into the events of Jan. 6, 2021.

During the Monday announcement, Tennessee Sen. Bill Hagerty and others said that the records analyzed by the FBI allowed investigators to see the date and time phone calls were made, but the content of the communications was not analyzed.

Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, who is the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, said that this move was a “violation of personal property and people’s rights and the law and their constitutional rights.”
