MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and state officials are reminding licensed beauty professionals in Tennessee to complete their mandatory domestic violence training before January 1.

Those who do not complete this training will have their licenses revoked. This is according to the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance and the state Board of Cosmetology and Barber Examiners.

The training became mandatory by law in 2021. Beauty professionals have had four years to receive free training (either online or in-person) to help recognize the signs of abuse, how to respond appropriately, and what resources are available to assist domestic violence victims.
