HASUER, Ore. – Smoke and fire alarms could still be seen and heard 12 hours later at the Hauser Rural Fire Protection District after a fire broke out at 1 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

The blaze quickly spread and engulfed the entire fire station, destroying the building and fire service vehicles inside.

“We had most of the fire in one bay,” Hauser Fire Chief Jerry Wharton said. “But it takes a little bit of time to get set up and it spreads fast. When you have open air.”

Firefighters had just returned home last night after fighting a fire around 10 p.m. only for the volunteer crew to be woken up to a fire at their station hours later.
