MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A company is looking to build a facility producing electricity near Point Pleasant, leaving a community concerned for their environment.

Gary Mitchell lives in New Haven, he said, “If it’s going to happen, then we need to make it as safe as possible.”

Before giving the company an air quality permit, the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection is giving the public time to comment.

Terry Fletcher, the Chief Communications Officer for the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection said, “They [comments] range from, you know various topics from air quality issues to water issues, zoning issues and things like that.”

After multiple comments and requests, the WVDEP held a public meeting Tuesday, but they could only address air quality.
