VERMILLION, S.D. (KTIV) - After more than a decade of planning, Clay County, South Dakota celebrated the opening of its new $43 million Law Enforcement Center & Jail, in Vermillion, Tuesday afternoon.

Vermillion Mayor Jon Cole knows the problems the old Clay County Jail posed.

“Having worked in the old police department during my years in law enforcement I saw first-hand the challenges our officers and our dispatchers faced,” said Mayor Cole. “The spaces were too small, outdated technology, and infrastructure that simply couldn’t keep up with the demands of a growing department and community.”
