STANDISH, Maine — A home was destroyed Tuesday night in Standish after a fire started in a garage generator, authorities said.
The Standish Fire Department responded shortly before 9 p.m. to a reported structure fire at 2 Deerfield Circle, the Maine Department of Public Safety said in a press release. Firefighters saw heavy flames coming from three sides of the house and requested mutual aid from the Windham, Gorham, and Raymond fire departments.
Three occupants were home at the time. They reported smelling burnt plastic and hearing snapping noises before evacuating safely, officials said. One dog died in the fire. No other injuries were reported.
