GRAY, Maine — Avesta Housing held the grand opening of Meadowview Wednesday afternoon—an affordable apartment building in Gray for older Mainers.

The new 26-unit building on Hancock Street is intended for residents aged 55 and older.

Meadowview has more energy efficient and sustainable features for lower costs and increased comfort, according to Avesta.

"Well there's a housing shortage you might've heard about," an Avesta spokesperson said. "Maine needs 84,000 more affordable homes for the residents of Maine than we have, and so that's especially hard for individuals of low income and individuals who are older adults."

Avesta said the facility is in walking distance of shopping centers, restaurants, and public services in Gray.
