MACON, Ga. — Crews with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) are preparing for a week-long closure shutting down the stretch from Foster Road to Tucker Road as part of a major replacement project, starting Friday.

Utility crews will spend the closure working on the Rocky Creek bridge’s water line, disconnecting and reconnecting sections before full reconstruction begins. According to GDOT, once the utility work wraps up, contractors will rebuild the Tucker Road bridge, construct the new roadway and demolish the existing bridge over Interstate 475.

Crystal O'Neal, a Macon resident, says the detour is going to add an extra 15 to 20 minutes to her route.
