ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is suing two of the nation’s largest marketplace rental networks, Zillow and Redfin, alleging the companies made a deal that could end up raising prices for renters across the country.

The lawsuit targets websites that millions of Americans use daily to find rental homes, including Zillow.com , owned by Zillow; and Rent.com and ApartmentGuide.com , which are owned by Redfin.

The FTC alleges Zillow paid Redfin to stop advertising multi-family apartment complexes of 25 units or more through what the companies called a “partnership” in February 2025.

Federal regulators allege the companies made an illegal agreement that eliminates competition in direct violation of federal antitrust law .
