MECOSTA COUNTY, MI - On Sept. 19, a letter and photo sent to Ferris State University President Bill Pink depicted a bronze statue of the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, sitting on a park bench with arms rested on his knees.

In the letter, Mecosta County Commissioners detailed an idea to partner on a statue honoring Kirk’s memory, after the 31-year-old was shot and killed during a speaking event on a Utah college campus in September.

“Because of Charlie’s outstanding contribution to society, once costs are determined, I suspect the board will overwhelmingly approve of splitting the cost of this important undertaking with Ferris,” the letter read.

Seven days later, Pink declined.
