LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The community is reminded on the importance of the 988-crisis lifeline.
Wednesday morning, the Area Health Education Center hosted a get together at Blas Castaneda Park to help spread the awareness of suicide.
There has been massive progress ever since the lifeline was created and made available two years ago.
So far this year, 17 people have taken their lives, but we’re told that 600 people opted to not take that drastic final option all because of the understanding operator on the other end.
The state of Texas ranks second in the nation when it comes to making calls to 988.
