PORTLAND, Conn. — In Connecticut, all Portland schools will be open and returning to their normal schedules on Thursday, according to district officials.

A major sewage backup at Portland Senior High School on Tuesday affected the entire facility on High Street, where Portland Middle School is also located.

Due to a pungent odor that could be smelled throughout the complex, district officials decided to send students at both the middle school and high school home early on Tuesday.
