It can't be easy sharing your name with a colossally famous and foul-mouthed celebrity chef.

But Gordon Ramsay - former Labor MLA, ordained Christian minister and avowed lover of the arts - always seemed happy to play on the name, while setting people straight.

The name stood out for different reasons this week - glaring out from the court list of the ACT Magistrates Court , where he appeared on charges of grooming a teenager.

It's now five years since Mr Ramsay lost his seat of Ginninderra in the 2020 ACT election, and the famous name's local resonance had perhaps faded for the majority of Canberra residents.

But until Thursday, he was still well and truly in public office, albeit not as an elected official.
