CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — A Lenoir man faces felony animal cruelty charges after authorities found a severely malnourished horse tied to a tree behind his house, officials said.

Holden Miller is being held without bond at the Caldwell County Detention Center following his arrest by Caldwell County Animal Care Enforcement officers.

Officers found a black horse tied to a tree 70 yards behind Miller's residence in a wooded area after receiving a tip, according to animal care officers. The horse had no food or water and required immediate medical attention.

Officers seized the horse along with several other animals from the property. The horse died days later despite receiving veterinary care.
