CANDIA, N.H. — One person was seriously injured Wednesday evening when multiple vehicles collided with the same moose on Route 101 in New Hampshire.

New Hampshire state troopers responded at 8:10 p.m. to a report that two vehicles had struck a moose near mile marker 68, the New Hampshire Department of Safety said in a press release.

Troopers determined that a Mazda 3 traveling eastbound hit the moose, which then crossed the median into westbound lanes, where it was struck by a Kia Sportage, according to the release.

The driver of the Mazda was not injured. An adult passenger in the Kia was taken to Elliot Hospital with serious injuries. Both vehicles were towed due to the extent of the damage.

The moose was euthanized at the scene because of its injuries, officials said.
