SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Freeze Warning is in effect for most of western Massachusetts Thursday night into Friday morning as temperatures are expected to drop below freezing.
Earlier this week, temperatures reached the 80s, but now they have fallen to the 50s and 60s, marking a significant shift to cooler autumn weather.
Meteorologist Chris Bouzakis noted that this will be the first hard freeze of the season, likely ending the growing season for most of western Massachusetts.
"I love it when it's a little crisp and cool," said Ray Zanetti from Granby, CT. "It's nice and clear, good breathing weather."
The Freeze Warning does not include Franklin and western Hampshire Counties, as the National Weather Service considers the growing season already over in those areas.
