HAGERSTOWN, Md. (DC News Now) -- Faculty and administration at Hagerstown Community College have reached a tentative agreement on the school's first-ever union contract with the United Academics of Maryland, the faculty's labor organization.

"It really strengthens the education here at the college and provides students with more excellence in teaching when faculty are provided the resources that we need, and support that we need," said Daniel Ryan, assistant professor at HCC and UAM member. "It really helps our institution grow."

"We had a good faith effort from the administration, and the faculty were fully engaged," said Associate Professor Eric Schwartz, a UAM member.

College President Dr. James Klauber said negotiations were "constructive and collaborative."
