Leeds high street footfall is down from last year as businesses warn of further closures.
High street footfall in Leeds has fallen by 1.7 per cent in September 2025 when compared with the same month the year before. This is according to data from BRC-SensormaticIQ by the British Retail Consortium (BRC).
In addition, Leeds has one of the highest store closure rates in the country, with 620 shops shutting their doors in the city since 2015. This makes it one of the top 10 towns for retail closures, with other businesses like Cinnabon, BrewDog, and Gusto planning further closures.
Across the rest of the UK, high street footfall fell by 2.5 per cent year-on-year and the BRC is now calling for further support from the government. They are asking for further backing in the Autumn Budget
