State authorities say that the wildfire at the George H. Crosby Manitou State Park has tripled in size to 160 acres as of Thursday afternoon, but that firefighters are starting to get it contained.
The update from the Minnesota Incident Command System (MNICS) reveals that the fire mapped at 30 acres on Wednesday and grew to 50 acres overnight, has now grown three times as much over the course of Thursday.
On the positive side, firefighters who struggled to reach the fire on Wednesday due to the difficult terrain managed to get better access on Thursday, with MNICS saying that the wildfire is now 25% contained.
It has also announced that the Superior Hiking Trail within the park will be closed as of 8 a.m. Friday.
