A local resident reported being scammed to the Weyburn Police Service, after receiving a call from someone pretending to be a police agency looking for donations for the homeless. Sergeant Riley Ross says that fortunately, the person did not provide any money or personal information to the caller.
"If you receive any types of calls like this, please don't give out any of your personal information or any money. If you do receive any of these calls, please contact the police and give us the information.”
He explains that there are different techniques that police use to investigate these kinds of fraudulent calls. This is why they should always be reported to the police.
Sgt. Ross uses the incident to raise awareness, reminding the public that police agencies will never contact the public
