The Family Place received a truckload of potatoes last week, distributing them throughout the community within less than two days.

"The Family Place belongs to a program called Second Harvest. And what they do is they'll e-mail us when they have food that needs to be rescued, they call it," explained Dawn Gutzke, Executive Director of The Family Place. "What happened is there are some potato farmers in Manitoba who lost their contract sales to the States, so they had all these extra potatoes and they were looking for places to donate them."

"So we received 30,000 pounds of potatoes last week and we were able to share it with our entire community, organizations, locals, surrounding areas. It was really amazing. In 36 hours, we had 30,000 pounds of potatoes out and distributed."
