It’s going to cost North Bay ratepayers more money to dump off a mattress at the Merrick Landfill.
But that’s not the only increase.

Tipping fees are also on the rise.
Council will consider amending the Waste Management User Fee bylaw during Tuesday’s council meeting.
Currently, it costs $25 to recycle one mattress; however, that price is jumping to $30 per mattress in 2026, and then to $35 in 2027.
The City of North Bay implemented mattress recycling on May 1, 2017, as a way to preserve space at the city’s landfill and extend the life of the city dump.
“Approximately 5,000 mattresses are recycled annually. The City of North Bay went through a formal bid request and received a bid that increases the mattress recycling program costs,” according to a city report.
