WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (WTNH) — One family was displaced and a dog was rescued during a Willimantic house fire on Friday morning.

The fire department was dispatched to the fire on Fairview Street around 8:37 a.m., which was elevated to a second-alarm fire upon arrival. Crews found a working fire in the basement of the single-family home, and smoke was showing from all floors.

The fire was placed under control at 9:50 a.m.

The family is being assisted by Windham Human Services and the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
