MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WITN) - Plans to turn a vacant Army Reserve Center into a Morehead City park have fallen through.
The town says the Army nixed their plans to turn the facility into an amphitheater, public water access, and multiple community spaces.
In a letter to Morehead City, the Army says the property has not been declared excess, and they are working to coordinate transferring it to the Marine Corps. The facility hasn’t been used for six years.
Last November, the town announced the Calico Bay Park proposal for the Fisher Street property. Part of their effort to get the property included writing letters to President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
The Marine Corps has not said what plans it has for the 24-acre site.
