KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jackson County Legislature Chair DaRon McGee is dropping out of the interim county executive race – following the recall of former county executive Frank White Jr.

The announcement on Friday comes after a FOX4 report uncovered new details about his 2019 resignation from the state legislature.

The investigation revealed a previously confidential Missouri House Ethics Committee file, which showed that McGee lied to investigators about the nature of his relationship with a subordinate staff member whom he pursued romantically, even asking her to marry him multiple times via text.

FOX4 obtained more than 60 pages of text messages documenting the advances.
