MINOT, ND (KXNET) — A major defense bill is one step closer to heading to the President's desk, and Sen. John Hoeven said it means more support for North Dakota's troops and bases.

The National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA, authorizes a 3.8% pay raise for military members, nationwide. It also invests into nuclear modernization at Minot Air Force Base, and funding upgrades to B-52 bombers, the Sentinel missile program, and new Grey Wolf helicopters.

$5.2M is also being given to the North Dakota National Guard to plan a new Guard Readiness Center in Jamestown. Grand Forks Air Force Base is also seeing impacts.
