Two weeks ago, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga joined a growing list of public universities rolling back their diversity, equity, and inclusion offices and programs.

In an email to students and faculty, Chancellor Lori Mann Bruce announced the elimination of several campus resources, stating that the changes “do not impact the school’s academic programs or course offerings.”

But some students say that’s not what they were told.

Cassandra Almond, a junior psychology major, said the Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, Artanya Wells, and the Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Veronica Warren, held a meeting with student groups where they stated certain classes could be affected, just days before the chancellor’s announcement.
