On Sunday, October 5, the ninth Rosendale Runs races were staged from the Rosendale Trestle parking area, which provides access to the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail. Running races don’t just materialize out of thin air. The origin of the present-day Rosendale Runs races dates back to the early 1980s. Community members of Rosendale, in conjunction with members of the Onteora Runners Club, organized the 4.4-mile Rosendale Plains run. It started at the Rosendale Community Center and ran up through Tillson, down Springtown Road, and back to the community center. The race took place in August, and the challenging climb up to Tillson, combined with the summer heat and humidity, made it a memorable run. For reasons unknown to me, the race faded away.
In 2012, the community pool at what was formerly
