Gov. Tate Reeves issued a statement on Facebook after a bloody weekend of high school homecoming-related shootings.
Six were killed and eight more injured in Leland at their yearly homecoming block party on North Main Street, and two were killed in Jasper County at Heidelberg High School’s homecoming. There was also reportedly a shooting at South Delta High School outside Rolling Fork.
On his Facebook, the Governor said the following:
“I want to provide an update on the senseless acts of violence that occurred in Mississippi last night.
Initial investigations indicate that at Heidelberg High School, two people were killed, including an expectant mother. A suspect has been identified, and was taken into custody by law enforcement officials.
