CAMP VERDE, Ariz. — When a flash flood hit while two women were hiking, they had to climb up a canyon to escape.
The women ventured out for a hike in the West Clear Creek Mountains east of Camp Verde on Thursday afternoon for a planned overnight hike, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.
The two 19-year-olds were reported missing on Friday, Oct. 10, and deputies confirmed the hikers' vehicle was still at the trailhead and DPS was called in for air support, officials said.
Severe weather initially prevented the helicopter from flying, officials said, and Yavapai County deputies planned a ground search for Saturday morning.
