MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The final piece to the Memphis Safe Task Force fell into place Friday: the National Guard troops arrived. This component to the federal surge to crack down on crime in the Bluff City completes the pledge from the president, and it's a promise backed up by Governor Bill Lee.
FOX13 observed some of the National Guard troops at the welcome center on the riverfront between the Bass Pro Pyramid and Tom Lee Park. That area was busy with tourist foot traffic. One traveler from California, Reggie Peña, told FOX13 it was strange to see troops patrolling the park. "It's a strange feeling to me, I'm not used to that. I'm not used to having military, unless I've been at a, I've worked at Vandenberg. I mean, I'm used to seeing military around there, it's at propose, it's, it's normal.
