MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Forget ghosts and monsters! Your family might be haunted by the high cost of chocolate this year. Cocoa prices have more than doubled since early 2024, according to a report released Thursday from the Wells Fargo Agri-Food Institute. "A few months ago, cocoa was $3,600 a ton," explained Gary Wilkes, president of Wayne's Candy Company. "It went to $10,500 a ton and it came down, but it's still way over $7,000 a ton!" Wilkes told FOX13 his small business off Third Street and Carolina Avenue has had to shift quickly with the volatile cocoa market. "We have kind of an advantage because we're nimble," Wilkes said.
