Angel of Mercy” is a play I wrote about one of the most courageous people I have ever learned about, a 47-year-old grandmother, Fannie Sellins, who worked for the United Mine Workers and in 1919 was murdered at a mine site up the Allegheny River from Pittsburgh by the mine owners.

As a playwright, in these days of negativity, I could not allow her positivity to remain unknown.

An excellent union worker

After her husband died in his workshop at a garment factory in St. Louis, Fannie went to her husband’s boss and demanded a job because she had four children take care of. She got the job.
