HUDSON VALLEY- The Jewish community in the Hudson Valley is cautiously optimistic that the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, brokered with the help of President Donald Trump, will result in long-term peace between the fierce enemies.

The ceasefire is an important move toward ending a devastating two-year war that has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians, destroyed much of Gaza, destabilized the region, and left many hostages in the territory.

“I hope there is going to be peace for a long period of time, but I’m not sure,” said Lisa Klein, Vice President of Temple Sinai in Middletown. “I don’t trust Hamas. Hamas is evil and wants to kill Jews. I just want those hostages to come home.”
