Hunters and trappers are being reminded to use caution near communities and remote work sites this hunting season.

The Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture is reminding hunters that it is against the law to shoot or handle a firearm while hunting without exercising reasonable care for the safety of others.

It is against the law to shoot a firearm from or across a highway, railway, or public or private road.

Hunters cannot fire a gun, bow, or crossbow within 1,000 metres of a school, playground or athletic field or within 300 meters of a home or dwelling.

All hunters and outdoor users should wear blaze orange or other high-visibility clothing for their own safety.
