Opposition leader Sussan Ley has unveiled her new-look shadow cabinet following former shadow home affairs minister Andrew Hastie's resignation from the Coalition frontbench.

Tasmanian senator Jonathon Duniam has been tapped to replace the West Australian MP in the portfolio.

In an unexpected move, outer-Sydney MP Julian Leeser has been shifted from his role of shadow attorney-general to that of shadow education minister to replace Mr Duniam.

A former solicitor and special advisor to then-attorney-general Philip Ruddock, Mr Leeser has shown a particular interest in the law during his time in parliament, including as the chair of the parliament's legal affairs committee.
