Canada Post employees are returning to work in Waterloo Region this week after the national union representing postal workers announced it would transition from a countrywide strike to rotating stoppages.

More than 55,000 Canada Post workers walked off the job on Sept. 25 after the federal government authorized reforms to the postal service that would shut some post offices and end door-to-door deliveries for millions.

After nearly three weeks, strike activity will now be determined on a day-to-day basis by the national office, said Trish Sheppard, president of Canadian Union of Postal Workers Local 560, which represents nearly 700 workers across Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge.
