MINNEAPOLIS — The future of two long-time Minneapolis traditions is uncertain at best, as the Minneapolis Downtown Council announced it will no longer produce Holidazzle or the Aquatennial.

"I want to be clear, the goal here is not to cancel Holidazzle and cancel Aquatennial," said Adam Duininck, CEO of the Downtown Council. "It's more, what is our role in them?"

In recent years, the Downtown Council has stepped in to effectively save the beloved traditions amid uncertain funding. The organization has served as both the producer and promoter of the events, but it is now cutting back its event planning staff in order to focus more on other priorities.
