At the Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt, US President Donald Trump praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, even though PM Modi did not attend the summit. Trump said, “India is a great country with a very good friend of mine at the top, and he has done a fantastic job.”
His remarks came while Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif looked on, and Trump expressed hope that India and Pakistan “are going to live very nicely together.”
Trump’s public acknowledgment of PM Modi, despite his absence, is another instance of the visible bonhomie between the two leaders. In a separate gesture, the US ambassador-designate presented PM Modi with a signed photo bearing Trump’s handwritten message: “Mr Prime Minister, you are great.”
