JACKSON — The head of the Mississippi High School Activities Association is urging schools to suspend tailgating events on campus as the state continues to see violence at or near high school sporting events.
MHSAA Executive Director Rickey Neaves addressed the issue during the association’s podcast, offering condolences to the families, schools and communities affected by recent incidents, including the ones that left six dead at Leland and two dead at Heidelberg.
“I highly recommend at this time that there be no tailgates on school property… all these events seem to stem from tailgates,” Neaves said. “From advice from our attorney, we recommend that schools stop tailgating on campus for now.”
