The Haryana government has sent Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur on leave, following mounting political pressure over the alleged suicide of senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar.

The development comes days after the transfer of former Rohtak Superintendent of Police (SP) Narendra Bijarniya, both of whom were named in a note purportedly left behind by the deceased officer, as per news agency PTI.

The late-night decision was confirmed by Rajiv Jaitly, the media adviser to the Haryana CM, stating, "Yes, the DGP has been sent on leave by the government,"

An official order further stated that OP Singh, a 1992-batch IPS officer of DGP rank, has been given the additional charge of DGP Haryana during the leave period of Shatrujeet Kapur."
