PORTLAND, Ore. — The old Gordon's Fireplace, one of Portland's most notorious eyesores, sold at auction Wednesday for $575,000.
The winning bidder has not been disclosed, but those involved in the sale say it is a local group. The sale requires final court approval and should close within 60-90 days.
This was the second time the old Gordon's Fireplace hit the auction block. The three-day auction ended 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Up until 15 minutes before the auction ended, the highest bid sat at $475,000, climbing from $325,000, one of the initial bids.
Located near Interstate 84, the historic structure is hard to miss. It's covered in graffiti, and many of the windows are smashed or boarded up.
The building's been at the center off an on-and-off relationship with the city of Portland and i
